Loving You

Chapter 11

Jaejoong watched as his best friend stood in a daze, still absorbing the news that he was the one the perpetrators were targeting, and not Yoochun.

The beautiful man squeezed Junsu’s shoulder in a comforting way.  “I really think you should go to the police.  This person just threatened your life, Junsu,” Jaejoong stated loud enough so that only the two of them can hear.  “Aren’t you scared at all?” he added, concern in his voice.

Junsu put his hand on the hand on his shoulder and met the older man’s eyes.  “What I’m more scared of is the safety of my parents and you.  They’ve already gone after Yoochun because of me.  Who’s to say that they won’t go after anyone else close to me?”

Jaejoong couldn’t utter a response.  He could take care of himself, but what about Junsu’s parents?  Could they be really next on list?  He saw Junsu felt for his cell phone but it wasn’t in his pant pockets.  He then borrowed Jaejoong’s and called Driver Cho to come fetch Yoochun at the hospital.

“Can you stay with Yoochun till Driver Cho arrives?  I need to talk to Yunho and update Changmin on all of this.  It’s going to take a while, so I won’t have time to take him home.”

Jaejoong nodded.  His best friend uttered a “thanks” before walking away to find the young doctor.

Jaejoong walked Yoochun to the Kims’ car awaiting them in front of the hospital entrance.

“Are you sure you don’t need us to drop you off at home, Jaejoong-sshi?” Yoochun asked once more after he learned that the older man had taken a taxi to the hospital earlier.

“I’m sure.  Thank you,” he replied, revealing a reassuring smile.

The two said good night to each other then Yoochun got in the car.  The car faded into the distance, but Jaejoong remained in his spot, his smile faltering.  He stared straight ahead at no particular spot on the asphalt.  He felt numb; he still couldn’t believe someone had threatened Junsu’s life, even more unbelievable was that his best friend refuses to go to the police.

He felt raindrops trickle down on him.  Softly at first then they started coming down harder.  He was getting soaked, but he could care less at the moment.  After a minute or two, he heard what sounded like a honk from a car nearby.  It was not until the car stopped in front of him and he was shielded from the rain that he was able to grasp his surroundings again.  He met the man holding the umbrella in the eye.

“Why are you standing out here in the rain?” the young doctor asked rhetorically.  “Here.  Get inside.” He opened the passenger door before stating, “I’ll take you home.”

There was no other man Jaejoong would rather see now than the man of his dreams.  He felt his heart swelled up.  Could this man have better timing?  His eyes brimmed with tears.  Before he knew it, he was crying on Yunho’s shoulder with the latter’s arms around him, rubbing his back soothingly.  He thought he could be strong for Junsu, but the truth of the matter is Jaejoong was afraid for his friend’s life.  He didn't have very many friends.  All the more reason why he treasured Junsu like a dongsaeng.

From a distance, Junsu watched the scene with a breaking heart inside his car.  He was about to pull his car up to Jaejoong when Yunho had unconsciously beaten him to it.  He felt a hint of jealousy in him.  Why was Yunho always the hero?

He continued to watch the other two men as they pulled away from the hug.  Jaejoong got in the car, his hand wiping his tears away.  Yunho got in soon after and drove away.  The hotelier reasoned that keeping his distance from Jaejoong was for the best for now.  He can’t put the man he loves in danger.

His phone rang suddenly.  He had a feeling who was calling when he saw that the phone number was blocked.

“It must hurt to see the one you love taken away from you, huh, Junsu-sshi?”

He was being watched again.  Junsu immediately stepped out of his car, regardless of the rain, and looked around.

“Come on out, you coward!”

He heard a chuckle from the other line.  “In due time.  Have patience, neh?”

“You leave Jaejoong, Yoochun, and my parents out of this!  Your quarrel is with me, damn it!”

He heard an exaggerated gasp from the other end.  “You hurt me, Junsu-sshi.  The fact that you think I would hurt your parents just to get to you.”

Junsu tightened his grip on his phone out of anger.

“I do have parents of my own,” the stranger continued.  “I would never hurt anyone else’s parents…unless, of course, they deserve it,” he added with a snicker.

“What about Yoochun and Jaejoong?” Junsu demanded.

“Hmm…,” the caller pretended to ponder the answer, “No promises!  You have a good night now, Junsu-sshi.”

Then the line went dead.  Junsu cursed under his breath before getting into his car and driving away.

Yunho pulled in to his parking spot in the basement parking lot of his apartment building.  He turned to his right to find Jaejoong sleeping soundly with the fleece blanket wrapped snuggly around him.  The young man had fallen asleep during the ride that Yunho did not have the heart to wake him up and ask for directions to his house.  Even now, he didn’t want to disturb the other, but they couldn’t stay in the car forever.  Jaejoong could catch a cold if he doesn’t get out of those wet clothes.

Yunho got out of his car and walked around to the passenger’s side.  As gently as he could, he removed the blanket and the belt buckle before he put his arms under the sleeping man’s knees and back.

Walking to the elevator, Yunho couldn’t help but observe Jaejoong’s facial features while his head rested on Yunho’s left shoulder.  He had never been this close up to the other man before.  A flashback of him comforting Jaejoong in the rain earlier entered the doctor’s mind at that point.  That’s when he realized that he didn’t know Jaejoong that well.  They were only acquaintances through Junsu, yet all he wanted to do was make all of Jaejoong’s worries disappear when the man broke down in front of him earlier.

Jaejoong began to stir in his arms.  A few seconds later, he lifted his eyelids slowly and saw a handsome Yunho staring back at him.

“Hey, you’re awake,” he smiled at the man he was carrying.

Jaejoong observed his surroundings before he asked to be put down.  Yunho did what he was told.  Then he pushed the button for the elevator.  The two of them walked in when the doors slid open.

“I’m sorry I fell asleep,” the wet man started.  “I’ll call someone to come pick me up.”

“That’s okay.  You can stay over tonight since it’s already late.”

Jaejoong was about to protest when Yunho added, “It’s not safe for anyone to be driving in this storm.”

“You’re right.  Thank you.”

Yunho smiled.  “Don’t mention it.”

When they reached Yunho’s apartment, Yunho showed him to the bathroom.

Jaejoong almost choked on his own saliva when Yunho said, “You need to get out of those wet clothes and warm your body up.”

“I’ll bring some clothes for you to change into,” he said before he walked away, shutting the door behind him.

A few minutes later, Yunho returned to the bathroom with a T-shirt, pajama bottoms, and brand new underwear for Jaejoong to change into.  He had walked in without knocking and froze in his spot when he saw Jaejoong’s back to him.  The other man was in the process of sliding off his buttoned-up collared shirt.  He didn’t seem to have heard Yunho returning because he continued undressing himself.  The young doctor couldn’t force himself to look away either.  His eyes were drawn to Jaejoong’s broad shoulders, slim waist, and creamy, pale back. He wondered if his skin was as soft as it looked.

When he was able to get a hold of himself, Yunho softly knocked on the door to let the other know that he was there.  Jaejoong turned around, startled.

“I’m sorry if I scared you.  Here are some clothes for you to change into after you shower.”

“Thank you,” Jaejoong said as his eyes followed Yunho, who placed the clothes on the bathroom sink counter.

Their eyes met again when Yunho looked in his direction.  “Towels are in the closet here.  Just call me if you need anything else.  I’ll be in the kitchen.  So come down when you’re done,” Yunho stated.

With a nod from Jaejoong, he left the bathroom, shutting the door behind him.  He rested against the door and exhaled, his hand reaching up to feel his fast beating heart.  He didn't understand why he was feeling this way.

The young doctor was setting the table when he saw his guest by the kitchen’s entrance.

“Hungry?” he asked.

“A little.”  Jaejoong replied as he walked over to the table and sat down.  He didn’t really have the appetite to eat.

“Still thinking about Junsu?” Yunho asked in which he received a nod from Jaejoong.

“I still can't believe it either," he sighed, "but, hey, everything will be all right," he added confidently, "I’ve known Junsu all my life.  He’s a smart man.  He’ll figure something out.”

Jaejoong remained silent, just thinking.  When he felt Yunho’s hand on his forehead, he turned to him with a confused look.

“Looks like you won’t catch a fever from standing in the rain.  Thank goodness.”

Jaejoong’s cheeks flushed.  Yunho had never paid this much attention to him before.  His heart was doing flips.

Yunho took a seat across from him and picked up his chopsticks and announced, “Now let’s eat.  Can’t let this food go to waste or else, Mrs. Hwang will have my head on a platter.”

Jaejoong smiled at that comment.  “Is she your cook?” he then asked curiously.

Yunho chewed as he nodded, “And maid.”  He added after he swallowed the food in his mouth.

An idea popped into Jaejoong’s head just then.

The following morning Yunho woke up to the wonderful aroma of breakfast as he did each morning when Mrs. Hwang came to cook.  He looked at the clock on the night table.  It was not even 7:00 yet.  Yunho wondered why his cook was earlier than usual this morning.

He woke up and went through his morning routine in the bathroom.  Thirty minutes later, he walked into the kitchen and was surprised to see, not Mrs. Hwang, but Jaejoong cooking.  The young doctor had no idea that Junsu’s friend could cook.  On the table was a plate of scrambled eggs, pancakes, and sausage links and two glasses of orange juice.

His eyes returned to observe the unsuspecting cook from his spot by the doorway of the kitchen.  Jaejoong’s back was to Yunho again, giving Yunho full view of how the apron accentuated the curves of Jaejoong’s body.

Yunho recalled that when Mrs. Hwang cooked, it felt like his mother was cooking.  Watching Jaejoong cook felt like he was watching his future wife cook for him.  He wasn’t sure why, but the idea of finding someone to settle down with has been on his mind a lot lately.

“…Yunho-shhi,” he heard Jaejoong called, bringing him out of his thoughts.

“I’ve been calling you for a while now.  What seems to be occupying your thoughts this morning if you don’t mind me asking?” he smiled at him.

“That you’ll make one man very lucky to have you as a husband.”

He saw the hint of red on Jaejoong’s cheeks.  It was no secret to the young doctor that Kim Jaejoong is a gay man.  The two of them sat down to eat once the coffee was prepared.

“This is my way of thanking you for taking care of me last night.  I hope you like my cooking as much as Mrs. Hwang’s,” Jaejoong looked down shyly.

“I’m sure it’ll be delicious.”  Yunho scooped some eggs with his spoon and put it in his mouth.  After two chews, he immediately stopped and had a look of disgust on his face.  Jaejoong was shocked.  He’s never made bad scrambled eggs before.

Then Yunho laughed.  “I’m just joking with you.  It’s delicious.”  He continued chewing again.

Jaejoong let out a big relieved sigh.  “You’re awful,” he commented.

The two laughed together and enjoyed the rest of the morning simply getting to know one another a little better.

(A/N: If you did skip Yunjae's part, then starting here, it's already the next day.)

Meanwhile at the Kim residence, the family was having breakfast when Mr. Kim asked about his wife’s upcoming charity banquet.

“Well, I was thinking that I would like for Yoochun to help me organize the banquet this year.”

Said man turned his head to the right to face his mother-in-law as well as Junsu, from across the table.  All three waited for the woman to explain.

“Since it is a family charity after all, I thought it’d be a great way to get Yoochun involved.”  She turned to her son-in-law and asked how he felt about that idea.

Yoochun felt conflicted.  He liked the idea very much, but he still wanted to work with Junsu.  He had a feeling that Junsu was very close to accepting him as part of the family.

“I’d love to help, Omonim, but—” Yoochun started but was interrupted by Junsu.

“I think that’s a great idea, Umma.  I can find a replacement for Yoochun in no time.  In fact, it would be no trouble at all if you take him off my hands today.”

Yoochun looked at Junsu, but the latter did not spare him a glance.  Yoochun felt hurt that his brother-in-law was prepared to part ways with him so easily.  He looked down at his food gloomily.  Perhaps he was the only one who thought that they were actually growing a little closer.

“Oh, excellent!” Hee Jin exclaimed in her seat.  She then turned to her son-in-law again and informed him that he would be accompanying her to the organization each day now.

“Neh, Omonim,” he replied, hoping that his voice didn't sound too depressed.  He immediately excused himself with the excuse of preparing notes for his replacement.  It was then that Junsu's eyes followed Yoochun's retreating figure.

A few minutes later, Yoochun returned to the dining room with a large notecard in his hand.  However, Junsu was no longer there.

"Where's Junsu-hyungbu?" he asked his parents.

"He said that he had things to do, like finding a substitute for you, so he left already," his mother-in-law explained.  "He also said that you can fax over the notes to his office and he'll forward it to the new secretary."

"Oh...okay then."

He left the dining room and headed towards the library, where the fax machine was located.  He couldn't help but feel that Junsu was avoiding him again like that week when he first came to live here.  Did he do something to upset Junsu?  The only thing he could think of was last night's incident.  Did Junsu finally had enough of him and his carelessness?  Yoochun sighed as the machine whirred.  Maybe he'll never know what brought this change on.

The Aria employees bowed to the hotel manager as he entered the hotel with his new assistant, a tall, dark handsome man.  The two stepped inside the elevator.

"Now that all of your household servants are cleared, I'll move on to your employees, hyung."

The hotelier simply nodded at his private investigator, whom was now posing as his personal assistant.  Ever since it was revealed that Junsu was the real target, it has made this investigation more difficult.  With Yoochun, there were fewer suspects as the perpetrator.  With Junsu, it was the direct opposite.  Hopefully by having Changmin working at the Aria under the alias Han Dong Joo, it will help speed things up a bit.  He could get close to some of the workers and try to learn the secrets and rumors about the workers.  Thus, narrowing down the list.

A few days later, Junsu received a phone call from his secretary in his office.

"Junsu-sshi, there is a Kim Jaejoong here to see you," Changmin's voice sounded over the phone.

Junsu wanted to beat himself up for forgetting to tell Jaejoong to keep his distance from him.  He figured now was the time to do it.

"Let him in, please."

The beautiful man walked in with a huff and then asked, "Has Yoochun not recovered from the allergy reaction?"

"He has.  Why?"

"Oh, good," Jaejoong walked towards one of the chairs in front of Junsu's desk.  "That means I won't have to deal with that sorry excuse for a replacement for much longer."  He sat down before continuing, "You seem to have forgotten to inform him that I'm a V.I.P. here.  Do you know how long it took to convince Mr. Han Dong Joo out there to give you a call just to let you know I was here?"

Junsu wanted to laugh.  If only Jaejoong knew that the replacement was his private investigator Shim Changmin.  (A/N: Jaejoong's never seen Changmin before.)

"Yoochun isn't returning to the Aria.  He's helping my mom with the annual charity banquet.  Plus, I think it would be for the best if you stopped seeing me."

The man frowned.  "If you're worried about me, then don't be.  I can take care of myself."  He saw Junsu's concerned, almost pleading, look and gave in.  "But if that's what you want, then I'll stop coming by.  Just until this case is solved."

"Thank you.  I don't know what I would do if something should ever happen to you."  The hotelier returned to writing.  "Oh, I never asked.  Did you get home safely that night from the hospital?"  He tried to sound as casual as he can.

"I didn't drive to the hospital that night.  Luckily, Yunho-sshi saw me and offered to take me home.  I ended up spending the night at Yunho's place, because I fell asleep on the way.  I cooked him breakfast in the morning as a thank you for taking care of me."

Junsu could hear someting in Jaejoong's voice as he retold these memories.  He gripped his pen for what's to come after he asked his question.

"You like Yunho, don't you?"

Jaejoong silenced and blushed wildly.  "I do."

If Junsu had been using a pencil, it would have broken in half already.

As soon as Junsu entered the mansion later that night, he stormed to the library, where his dad's set of hard liquor was.  He needed a drink.  A few actually.

The news hit him hard.  The man of his dreams had feelings for someone else.  Not just anyone but Dr. Jung Yunho.  The same man who seems to be interested in Park Yoochun.

Lifting the lid off of the glass bottle of whiskey, he poured its content into a glass and gulped it down once.  He groaned when the liquor burned his throat.

How was Jaejoong going to handle the news when he finds out that Yunho might not return his feelings?  He'll be heartbroken for sure.

He swallowed another.  Then another.  He lost count after a while.  Then he heard a familiar voice.

He paused.  Why did Yoochun have to be everywhere he was?  Why can't he ever be rid of this man?  Was he not allowed any peace without the other man disrupting?

He turned to face his brother's spouse and asked in a cold voice, "What do you want?  Can't you tell when a man wants to be left alone?"

He could tell Yoochun was shocked by the coldness.  Jaejoong had told him that he wasn't one of those silly drunks.  In fact, Junsu was a very scary drunk, very calm and very much in control.  One that made people wonder if he really was drunk in the first place.  He had an air to him that made people shrink back in fear if they had unconsciously said something to upset him.

"If something is bothering you, then you can talk to me about it.  You shouldn't drown your worries with alcohol."

Junsu's grip on the glass tightened.  How dare he lecture Kim Junsu?  He did everything to restrain himself from cracking the glass on the floor.  He would have done it, too, if he wasn't concern about waking everyone up.  Instead, he placed it back on the table with the rest of the collection.

He faced the other and walked in his direction, backing Yoochun into a corner created by two bookshelves.  He then brought up his left hand to rest on the shelf to prevent Yoochun from escaping.  The two men stared into each other's eyes, one patiently waiting, the other seriously losing his patience.  Seeing the long-haired man now in his current state of mind only brought up old feelings of hate and resentment that he apparently had not let go of yet.

"You really don't know what's bothering me?" he asked in a surprisingly calm, low voice that sent shivers down Yoochun's body.  "Ever since you've returned to Seoul, I haven't had a worry-free day or night.  I constantly think about you each day, wondering if you're careless enough to get yourself into some dangerous situation where I have to rescue you."

He hit his palm against the bookshelf as he asked, "Why.do.you.like to stir me up so much?" causing Yoochun to flinch from the noise he made each time.  Although he knew Junsu wouldn't hit him, he was still afraid at the slight possibility that Junsu might actually hit him.  The drunk man brought his left hand to massage his own forehead, his eyes closed.

"The bigger question is, why do I care so much about you?"

Yoochun's eyes widened as he observe Junsu.  Did he hear correctly?  That Junsu cared for him?  What did this mean?  His heart began racing in anticipation for what else Junsu has to say.  He almost didn't want  to breathe for fear that he might miss Junsu's next words.

His brother-in-law dropped his arm to his side and then looked off to the side.

"Why do I care what happens to you?" he asked himself in a softer voice than before.  "You're a selfish man, Park Yoochun.  Why should I care about a selfish man like you?  You took hyung away from us.  If you really loved hyung, you would have told him to returned home the night he left us.  But why am I repeating this?  It's in the past.  I need to let go like Jaejoong said."  A small smile reached his lips.  "Sweet, sweet, beautiful Jaejoong."

Junsu faced him suddenly and lifted his chin up with his index finger.  "You're so talented yet so naive, Yoochun-sshi.  It's almost a waste of your talents, really."

He felt Yoochun shoved him and tried to leave but he wasn't finished yet.  He snatched Yoochun's wrist and had him back up against a bookshelf in no time.  This time, he used his body and both of his arms to block his brother's lover from escaping.

"You leave when I say you can, do you hear me?"

Yoochun struggled to get out of his hold.  "Junsu-sshi, you're scaring me," he whimpered.

He felt Junsu's index finger on his lips.  "Shh..." Junsu shushed him.

"I'll let you in on a little secret," he whispered into Yoochun's ear, who stopped wiggling then.  "I've always admired hyung for being able to come out to our father.  I don't know if I could ever do that.  I'm a coward compared to hyung.  How can I expect to win the man of my dreams if I can't even admit to my parents that I'm gay."

Yoochun felt his brother-in-law's chin rest on his left shoulder.  Realizing that his wrist was free, he brought his arms up to embrace the older man.  Yoochun was very confused though.  He wasn't sure if Junsu was drinking because he was upset with him for what he did two years ago or if Junsu was upset with himself for not being able to come out and be with the man of his dreams for all to see.  If the latter, then what could have caused Junsu to break down and drink this much?  Did he have a secret lover who left him because he could no longer wait for Junsu to come clean with his parents?

"I'll be there to support you every step of the way, Junsu-sshi.  You're his son.  Aboji will accept you."

When he didn't hear anything or feel any movement, Yoochun thought that Junsu had fallen asleep.

Said man stood upright, his eyes focused somewhere else.

"Thank you for listening," was all he said before he leaned in and kissed Yoochun softly on the lips.  He walked out of the library, leaving a very shocked Yoochun still standing up against the bookshelf, blinking and chest heaving up and down.  A moment later, he sank down to the wooden floor, still unsure what just happened between him and his brother-in-law.  All he know was that his heart was about to burst out of his chest.

A/N: Sorry for the late update everyone. I've been busy with my new job as a math instructor at a junior college. There's a month and a half left, so I hope I can return to updating on a regular basis and hopefully finish this fic by the end of the year. That's quite a goal actually. lol. Let's see if I can achieve it! I hope you all enjoyed this chapter.
